I know mascara can be tricky. And if you’re anything like me, as soon as you’ve applied just the right amount of mascara and are ready to go, you sneeze. NEVER FAILS! Well since I know it can be a challenge, I thought this might be a great idea for a quick post to help all my queens out there who could use a little help.

Make sure you’re focusing on enhancing the natural beauty of your lashes instead of creating a dramatic or bold look. I mean unless that’s what you’re going for. Do you boo!

  1. First, make sure the lashes are clean and free of any makeup or oils.
  2. Then, using a mascara wand, apply the mascara to the base of the lashes, wiggling the wand back and forth to coat the lashes evenly. Avoid pumping the wand in and out of the tube, as this can dry out the mascara and cause clumps. Not to mention all the bacteria that you’re inviting in with each pump.
  3. Next, gently comb through the lashes with the wand to separate them and remove any clumps. Be careful not to tug or pull on the lashes, as this can cause them to break or fall out.
  4. Finally, apply a second coat of mascara to the tips of the lashes to add length and definition. This will help to create the illusion of fuller and longer lashes without looking overly dramatic.

It’s also important to remember to use mascara that is formulated for mature skin, as some mascaras may contain ingredients that can cause dryness or irritation. I love Clinique for this very reason (not sponsored). It’s also a good idea to use a mascara primer, which can help to nourish and strengthen the lashes, making them appear fuller and more defined.

Word to the wise (or those just learning about all this stuff), avoid using harsh makeup removers but be sure to remove all your mascara gently before going to bed. Seriously, get that stuff off so you don’t create or add to your dark circles.

Happy mascara-ing! (New phrase alert!)
