“Mastering the Art of Winged Eyeliner: Tips and Tricks for a Flawless Look”
I got a request from a dear friend of mine that would like to learn how to do a winged eye with liquid eyeliner. It seems that the elusive cat eye is not just difficult for her but for other girls I know as well. I thought this would be a great opportunity to teach my readers a foolproof way to achieve this look. It’s quick, easy and legit works every ๐ single ๐ time ๐.
It’s easy for me to tell you to measure, check both eyes, etc. because I’ve been doing it forever. I’m not going to do that. This post is going to make you all sigh with relief and have you swiping away in no time.
Firstly, let me introduce you to Shadow Shields. What is it? It’s a half moon shaped grippy cloth like fallout catcher. It’s got a curved top perfect to line up just under your lower lash line and the bottom half flips up to catch eyeshadow fallout. It’s named Shadow Shield because it does exactly that, it shields your face from the falling particles of eyeshadow that inevitably fall when you’re putting on your makeup. There’s nothing worse than being almost finished beating your face only to have dark brown or black eyeshadow smudge the entire look. With these on, the shadow shield catches the fall out and your makeup stays in tact.
One extra thing that this little darling does however, is serve as a guide for your eyeliner. When placed from the center of your lower lash line and angled just so (depending on where you want your liner to be), allow the shield to fold up. It creates a ledge to catch the shadow fallout.
Now you begin your painting. Start with your primer, layer your shadows however you’d like them to look bringing them all the way to your shield. When you’re completely happy with what you’ve created grab your eyeliner pen, eyeliner brush and gel, pencil or whatever you’re creating this feline flick with.
With this shield on you can rest assured that you pretty much can’t get it wrong. Start with your top lid (which is the only place you should apply liquid liner anyway). In the center of the top lid gently lay the liner flat. This will create your first line. Lift the pen and continue the line by laying it down behind the first line.
Continue this until you reach the outer corner of your eye. Now follow the shadow shield with the tip of the pen. Make sure you’re using a gentle hand so as not to create sharpie like lines on your eyes. Now you can go back to the center of our lid and move inwards towards your inner corner. To smooth the entire line and go over it with the tip of your pen connecting and smoothing any lines that may look “dotted”.
A great way to really seal your handy work is to go over it with eyeshadow. You can either layer it directly on top or use the shadow to create a sultry smoke from the crisp line you’ve created.
Now, gently peel away your shadow shield. Tadaaaa!! You’ve just created the perfect cat eye. Don’t forget to curl your lashes, apply mascara (top and bottom). Finish it off with your favorite set of lashes and you’re ready to go!
Below I’ve noted a few of my favorite liquid eyeliners. You can always try anything from the drugstore, Ulta or wherever you get your makeup goodies these just happen to be my tried and true favorites.
