How to Safely Remove Store-bought Fake Nails At Home
Costs for everything are rising and though that might cause us to use caution when we’re making purchases, it’s not exactly stopping us from purchasing. The lipstick effect is a real thing and though we may not have the funds or time to sit at the salon and get a full set, it’s much easier nowadays to run into your closest Target, Walmart, or pharmacy and grab a box of nails for a terrific value!
Though you may have figured out (or referenced my previous post to learn) how to apply fake nails you grabbed while you were grocery shopping (I mean holy convenience batman!) When they’re ready to come off or you’re ready for them to come off, it’s a good idea to have a game plan.
Here are some tips for removing store-bought fake nails:
- Start by cutting the nails as short as possible. This will make it easier to remove the fake nails and will also reduce the risk of damaging your natural nails.
- Soak your nails in warm water for about 10-15 minutes. The warm water will help to soften the glue and make it easier to remove the fake nails.
- Gently lift the edge of the fake nails using a pair of tweezers or a cuticle pusher. Be careful not to pull too hard or you may damage your natural nails.
- If the fake nails are still difficult to remove, use a nail file to gently file the remaining glue. Be careful not to file your natural nails.
- Once all the fake nails have been removed, gently push back your cuticles, and moisturize your nails with a nourishing oil or lotion. I love cuticle oil for this!
- To remove any remaining glue, you can use a cotton swab dipped in nail polish remover to gently rub away the glue. I found that the glue that comes in the packs of nails isn’t difficult to remove and usually comes off completely with the nail after a good soak.
- Remember to give your natural nails some time to rest after removing the fake nails and avoid applying them again for a few days.
It’s important to keep in mind that removing fake nails can be a bit time-consuming and can cause some damage to your natural nails. It’s also important to be gentle and not force the nails off, to avoid damaging your natural nails. If you’re not comfortable doing it by yourself, you can visit a professional to help you with this process.
