To Gloss or Not to Gloss on Your Big Day
Never have details been so important than when you’re planning your wedding. For many women, everything needs to be just so on their big day and that includes their makeup. You’re artist has likely assured you that your foundation, concealer, eyeliner and mascara will be waterproof. Your stylist has assured you that she’s got hairspray back up cans to make sure your hair doesn’t budge. The one little thing that will be completely up to you right up until the last second is whether or not you prefer gloss or lipstick on your big day.
Though it might seem trivial (said no bride ever!) there are some things you want to think about before making this decision. Lipstick for example comes in a variety of finishes from matte to creamy to won’t budge till you scrub it with makeup remover. Gloss on the other hand has one finish and that’s gloss. Could be sticky gloss could be smoother but gloss is gloss and needs to be re-applied to keep it looking as it initially did after kissing the groom (lemme get that gloss off of you honey), eating, drinking and heaven forbid your hair is down and it’s the slightest bit windy, you might end up with gloss stripes right across your freshly waterproofed face.
Some prefer gloss because it gives the appearance of juicy plump lips (think like you just bit into a fresh strawberry) and makes their lips feel moisturized. Some lipsticks are drying and feel like they’re caked on your lips after a while of wearing them. If this happens and your lips are already dry, you run the risk of your cracks and imperfections showing through your freshly painted petals.
This is not to say that I’m suggesting one thing or another but I’m trying to make sure you understand the difference between the two. This way you can take care to exfoliate your lips and moisturize properly daily before your wedding so you know that they’re in great condition regardless of your ultimate decision.
